RICHMOND, VA—Members of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus (VLBC) are excited to welcome Adele McClure as Executive Director of the VLBC.

McClure joins us from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) where she served as the point person on eviction prevention and diversion efforts and where she worked on initiatives that include ending homelessness, implementing programs that support youth transitioning out of foster care, supporting maternal health, and supporting increases in permanent supportive housing and affordable housing units. Prior to working at DHCD, she resigned her position in protest as Policy Director in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

“I’m thrilled to join the VLBC team, where I will have the opportunity to continue working on issues near and dear to my heart,” McClure said. “While much has already been accomplished to help and support Black Virginians, there are many more efforts that we as the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus will champion and support to further the well-being and rights of people of color in Virginia. And I’m proud to be on the front lines of this work.”

As a result of her policy work, McClure was named to the 2019 Forbes 30 under 30 list.

McClure has experience as a policy professional, campaign advisor, and advocate for vulnerable populations. She is deeply committed to addressing disparities and issues that disproportionately affect Black people and other historically disadvantaged communities. In addition, her experience includes work as a consultant at Deloitte, and previous positions at the International Monetary Fund and the Association of the United States Army.

Raised in Alexandria, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in economics from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2011 and served as VCU Student Body President.  McClure is a 2016 graduate of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership’s Emerging Leaders program.

Her many civic activities include serving as an executive committee member of the Arlington Plan to End Homelessness and as a member of the Richmond Eviction Diversion Program Project Planning Team. She previously served as a member of the VCU Alumni Association Board of Governors, Alliance for Housing Solutions Board, HomeAgain Board, Arlington Community Services Board (CSB), Arlington CSB Substance Use Disorder Committee, Dulles Justice Coalition, and as a consumer member on the Health Systems Agency of Northern Virginia Board of Directors.

In the coming weeks, the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus will be releasing its 2020 legislative agenda in preparation for the 2020 Virginia General Assembly Session.
