RICHMOND, VA—The Virginia Legislative Black Caucus congratulates three of its members who were recently announced as Chairs of key committees in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Del. Luke Torian (D-52nd, Prince William) was named Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Del. Jeion Ward (D-92nd, Hampton) was named Chair of the Commerce and Labor Committee, and Del. Roslyn Tyler (D-75th, Jarratt) was named Chair of the Education Committee.
Speaker-designee Del. Eileen Filler-Corn (D-41st, Fairfax) announced the appointments in a press release earlier today, describing the new Chairs as “impressive leaders” who will help to “shape our policy agenda” for Virginia in 2020 and after.
“Each of these delegates brings a great deal of experience, both in and out of the legislature, which will contribute to our work to make our schools better, our communities stronger, and our economy thriving and fair,” she said.
The VLBC looks forward to the extensive experience, expertise, and diverse perspectives that Del. Torian, Del. Ward, and Del. Tyler will bring to these roles.
“These historic appointments are pivotal in representing the diverse needs of the Commonwealth,” VLBC Chairman Del. Lamont Bagby (D-74th, Henrico) said. “Diversity within leadership will only further strengthen Virginia and better lead to representing the interests of all its people. So we are proud to support our members in these key roles as we head into the 2020 Session.”
